The Man Behind The Lens
Terence Bromley | Monochrome Photographer
Life isn’t always black and white. But sometimes, that’s where its beauty lies.
I’m Terence Bromley, although most people know me as Tez.
I’m a photographer with a passion for capturing people, places and moments through the timeless simplicity of black and white.
My journey into photography hasn’t followed a conventional path. I discovered my passion for the camera later in life, bringing with me a lifetime of experiences, challenges, friendships and stories.
Perhaps that’s why I’m drawn to photographs that reveal something deeper than what we see on the surface. For me, photography has never been simply about creating beautiful pictures. It’s about seeing people, understanding emotion and finding significance in moments that others might overlook.
Photography didn’t just change the way I see the world. It changed my life.
The Beauty of Monochrome
There’s something incredibly honest about black-and-white photography.
Remove the colour and suddenly the distractions disappear. What remains is light, shadow, texture, expression and emotion.
A weathered face becomes a story. A fleeting glance becomes a connection. An ordinary moment can become something extraordinary.
I love the way monochrome photography invites us to look a little longer, to notice the details and perhaps even feel something we weren’t expecting.
I’m particularly drawn to contrast, atmosphere and the interplay between darkness and light. Not simply for their visual impact, but for the stories they help tell.
Some images are quiet and contemplative. Others are bold, dramatic and unapologetically expressive.
But every photograph begins with the same intention: to capture something meaningful.
The Person Behind the Camera
I’m a down-to-earth bloke who enjoys meeting people, listening to their stories and discovering what makes them who they are.
Life has taught me that everyone carries a story, even when it isn’t immediately visible. I think that understanding has shaped the way I photograph.
I don’t believe every image needs to be perfectly posed or technically immaculate to have value. Sometimes the most powerful photographs are the ones that capture vulnerability, strength, character or an unguarded moment of humanity.
I’m constantly learning, experimenting and challenging myself to see things differently.
And although I’m proud of the photographs I create, I’m far more interested in the ones I haven’t taken yet.
More Than an Image
Photography has introduced me to extraordinary people, taken me to unexpected places and given me a creative voice I never knew I had.
It’s taught me patience, observation and the importance of slowing down long enough to appreciate what’s right in front of me.
Through my monochrome work, I hope to create photographs that are not only seen, but felt.
Images that encourage curiosity, provoke thought or simply allow someone to recognise a little of themselves in another person.
I don’t expect everyone to interpret my photographs in the same way. In fact, I rather like that they don’t.
Because once an image is shared, its story belongs as much to the viewer as it does to the photographer.
A Continuing Journey
I don’t consider myself a photographer who has reached his destination.
I’m still discovering my style, exploring new ideas and finding inspiration in the most unexpected places.
Every photograph teaches me something. Every encounter adds another chapter.
And if there’s one thing I’ve come to appreciate, it’s that some of life’s most beautiful moments aren’t the loudest or the most colourful.
Sometimes they’re found in the quiet spaces between light and shadow.
I’m Terence Bromley. This is how I see the world.
Welcome to my world in monochrome.
